The export feature is available so inspectors can export their saved settings to another computer. The INSPECTEXPRESS™ License Agreement allows a single inspector to use their version of INSPECTEXPRESS™ on more than one computer (for example, a computer in the office and a notebook taken on site). If you have customized INSPECTEXPRESS™ settings or saved archived comments, edited check boxes or drop-down boxes etc., these settings can be easily transferred from one computer to the other by following the instructions below.
Before exporting and importing your settings or database comments, you must ensure that both computers are using the same version of INSPECTEXPRESS™. If you are not sure of your version number, select Inspect Express Help->About Inspect Express from the INSPECTEXPRESS™ menu.
* Note: This Export setting function will export/import program settings available on the Main Program Settings, Styles and Font Settings, and Image Settings forms. This will not export any other report templates. Custom report templates must be exported and imported separately in addition to these main settings (see below).
On the INSPECTEXPRESS™ menu - select Inspect Express Help->Import-Export-Backup->Export Import Settings or select Programs->Inspect Express V3->Export Custom Settings from the main windows menu.
Select 'Default' from the 'Section Template Settings Name' selection box and click 'Export'.
You will be prompted for a folder to save your exported settings file to.
A file named 'HouseInspect.reg' will be created in the folder specified.
Copy the file indicated above to the computer where you wish to export the settings to. It will not matter which directory the file is copied to.
Open the Export-Import Program Settings form again on the computer where you are importing the settings and click 'Import Settings (REG File)' button. Browse to the file you wish to import. You will be asked if you want to import these settings to your registry - say yes!
Export/Import Report Template Files:
* Note: This Export setting function will export/import program settings available on the Report Template Editor and Section Disclaimer forms.
On the INSPECTEXPRESS™ menu - select Inspect Express Help->Import-Export-Backup->Export Import Settings or select Programs->Inspect Express V3->Export Custom Settings from the main windows menu.
Select any template (other than 'Default') from the 'Section Template Settings Name' selection box and click 'Export'.
You will be prompted for a folder to save your exported settings file to.
A .reg file of the same name as the template exported will be created in the folder specified.
Copy the file indicated above to the computer where you wish to export the settings to. It will not matter which directory the file is copied to.
Open the Export-Import Program Settings form again on the computer where you are importing the settings and click 'Import Report Template' button. Browse to the file you wish to import. You will be asked if you want to import these settings to your registry - say yes!
All comments, archived comments and selection box entries are now stored in either the 'HouseInspect.mdb' or 'IX-CommentData.mdb' (depending on your program version) file located in the 'Settings' directory where INSPECTEXPRESS™ was installed (usually 'c:\Program Files\Inspect Express V3').
To back up or export database comments:
Select Settings->Import-Export-Backup->Export Backup Database from the INSPECTEXPRESS™ Menu or select Programs->Inspect Express V3->Export Backup Settings from the main windows menu.
Select the appropriate database file to back up.
Choose the location for the backup file when prompted.
To import your comments to a second computer, copy this file to the INSPECTEXPRESS™ 'Settings' directory on the second computer. NOTE: This will overwrite any edits/additions made to comments on the second computer.
