When an inspector distributes a report electronically, it is recommended that the document be protected so that the recipient of the report is unable to edit it. This feature is available in all versions of Microsoft Word.
Word 97/2000: To protect a completed inspection report, select Tools->Protect Document from the main Word menu. Select 'Protect Document from Comments' to prevent any edits to the document from being made and enter a password.
Ensure that you track these passwords carefully if you are using this feature as you will not be able to make changes without removing the protection from the document.
